On August 9, 2021, the Senate passed a heavily amended version of HR 3684, the INVEST in America Act, which will extend approximately $450 billion in FY2021 infrastructure funds through 2022 and provide more than $547 billion in additional funding for infrastructure projects across the country. The vote was 69 in favor to 30 opposed with several republican Senators voting for the bill.
The Act as amended now goes back to the House of Representatives for a potentially final vote. However, Speaker Pelosi (D. Cal.) and several Democratic colleagues in the House have stated repeatedly that the House will not pass the Act without an affirmative Senate vote on Biden’s $3.5 trillion reconciliation package as well.
