Side impact crashes can involve two vehicles making contact while traveling in the same direction, in opposite directions or with one vehicle impacting the side of another head-on. While the latter form, commonly known as a “T-bone” accident, is often considered the most dangerous, all types of side impact collisions have the potential to cause serious physical injuries with lasting consequences.

When seeking financial compensation for a side impact crash, it is critical to conduct a thorough investigation. In order to prove that the other driver was at fault, you will need evidence that he or she entered your lane improperly, or that you had the right of way at the time of a T-bone collision. Ideally, this investigation should be conducted as soon as possible; and, regardless of how long it has been since your accident, you should speak with an attorney right away.

COMMON FORMS OF FAULT IN SIDE IMPACT CRASHES

In side impact collisions, there are a variety of factors that can potentially be to blame. Some of the most-common factors in side impact crashes include:

  • Texting, talking on the phone, using social media, following GPS directions and other forms of distracted driving;
  • Drowsy driving and falling asleep behind the wheel due to driver fatigue;
  • Impaired driving resulting from alcohol or drug use;
  • Failure to look before merging, running red lights and other forms of driver negligence;
  • Inadequate vehicle maintenance, such as failure to replace worn tires; and,
  • Brake failures and other types of vehicle defects.

Establishing fault isn’t easy, and insurance companies will often try to blame victims for their own injuries. As a result, to protect yourself, you need to have experienced legal representation.
