Buyers like to do business with providers who are positive and enthusiastic. Unfortunately, it’s sometimes hard to project these attributes over the telephone, particularly when we’re not feeling that way. But there is a way to help ensure that our phone conversations come off as appropriately energetic: While on the phone, sit up straight on the front edge of your chair and smile, even if it is a forced smile. Professional broadcasters know that, in doing this, it’s virtually impossible to come across as anything other than positive and enthusiastic. Since communication is a big part of what we do too, shouldn’t we borrow a technique that helps professional communicators succeed? Try it! (Maybe behind a closed door.)
