We have added state soil regulations to our PFAS maps. The regulations include direct contact and leaching regulations.

State drinking water, surface water, groundwater regulation criteria, fish tissue consumption advisories, and now soil regulations are all in one place—through an easy-to-use, interactive map.

Regulations on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) vary by state and continue to evolve. Integral created a community resource on drinking water in November 2021—now you can see our latest update adding soil regualtions.

In this version of the maps, we’re proud to present the addition of state-by-state regulatory status for various PFAS compounds monitored by state agencies in soils both for direct contact exposure and leaching into groundwater. The first of its kind, this interactive tool is used to track enforceable and non-enforceable regulations at the state level. The user can zoom in on these interactive maps to learn more about specific state regulations, including the regulation type, PFAS of concern, regulatory concentration, and exposure category. State-specific links are provided so the user can dive in deep to understand more about a given regulation.

If you commented on our prior version, we listened. This map has even more of the great features our users, clients, and colleagues have requested.

This is a tool for the whole community as we navigate these changes together. So, use the maps, cite the maps, and visit frequently because we are always updating them with new regulations, advisories, and other regulatory criteria.

Take Me To The Map

“This tool provides all those interested in PFAS regulations with a quick, accurate, and comprehensive look at developments across the country,” says Integral Managing Principal Avram Frankel, P.E.

Map Methods

Integral developed the map as part of its research to compile accurate and current information on PFAS regulations and advisories. The primary sources were state government websites, publications, and communications. The team conducted a two-party quality assurance/quality control check to ensure the accuracy of the information. To our knowledge, this is the most complete compilation of publicly available PFAS water regulatory criteria. Feel free to reference them, as needed.

Integral will also be releasing map updates with other PFAS regulations for different mediums in the coming months.
