Deputy Mayor for Housing & Urban Development Steps Down
Late on Wednesday, City Hall confirmed that Deputy Mayor for Housing and Urban Development Alicia Glen will step down from her position at the beginning of next year. Glen has been a prominent member of Mayor de Blasio's Administration, overseeing 20 city agencies including the New York City Housing Authority and the Department of City Planning. Glen has been instrumental in the implementation of the mayor's affordable housing program, and more recently the deal to bring Amazon's second headquarters to Long Island City. A replacement for Glen has not yet been named.
de Blasio Announces Next Commissioner to Oversee the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
Earlier on Wednesday, Mayor de Blasio announced the appointment of Dr. Oxiris Barbot as the city's next commissioner to oversee the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Since August, Dr. Barbot has served as the agency's acting commissioner after former Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett announced she was stepping down from the role. Dr. Barbot became a first deputy commissioner at DOHMH in 2014 after serving as Baltimore's City Health Commissioner from 2010-2014.
City Council In Recess Until January 9th
The New York City Council will be in recess until January 9th when they will meet for the Charter Meeting, referred to as the first meeting of the year by the official Rules of the Council.
