What Caused the Ultra Intelligence & Communications Data Breach?

The Ultra Intelligence & Communications data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Ultra’s filing with the Attorney General of Montana provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on November 24, 2023, Ultra identified suspicious activity within part of its computer network. In response, Ultra took steps to contain the incident and then launched an investigation to determine what, if any, consumer information was subject to unauthorized access as a result.

Ultra’s investigation confirmed that an unauthorized actor had gained access to certain systems on its network. It was also determined that the unauthorized party acquired information and then posted it online on December 27, 2023. However, Ultra notes that the website where the information was posted was not accessible to the general public.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Ultra Intelligence & Communications reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. Ultra completed this process on February 20, 2024.

On March 15, 2024, Ultra Intelligence & Communications sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. While the publicly available data breach letter from Ultra does not mention what types of data were leaked, the personalized data breach letters that Ultra recently sent out should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
