Update: Information Blocking Final Rule Implementation Delayed

On October 29th, just a few days prior to the Information Blocking Final Rule’s November 2nd effective date, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (“ONC”) released an interim final rule with comment period that extended the compliance dates within the Rule. ONC explained that this delay is to allow health care providers to focus on their COVID-19 response. Accordingly, health care providers will now have five additional months, until April 5, 2021, to comply with the provisions of the Information Blocking Rule.
