ALJ Pender Retires

Earlier this week, orders were issued in several investigations indicating that Administrative Law Judge (“ALJ”) Thomas B. Pender had retired from the ITC. The orders indicated that because of his retirement, the investigations which he had been assigned to were being reassigned.

ALJ Pender joined the ITC in October 2011. Before joining the ITC, he served in several roles within the government including as an ALJ with the Social Security Administration, an ALJ with the Small Business Administration, and in a senior position at the Defense Contract Management Agency. He was also a Senior Trial Attorney in the Office of the Chief Trial Attorney of the Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base; Deputy District Counsel for the U.S. Army Engineer District in Baltimore, MD; and General Attorney/Trial Attorney for the U.S. Army Engineer District in Fort Worth, TX. ALJ Pender was also on active duty in the U.S. Army as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate in Bayonne, NJ, and a Trial Defense Counsel in Tongduchon, South Korea.

ALJ Pender earned his bachelor’s degree from the Virginia Military Institute and his JD from Emory University Law School.

The status of the investigations previously assigned to ALJ Pender remains unknown. In the orders, Chief ALJ Bullock temporarily assigned the investigations to himself.
