Practice/Organization Description

You needed something different.

So did we. Twenty years ago, a small group of attorneys had a vision for what a successful law firm culture and service model should be. Leaving the traditional law firm model behind, our founders shared one simple goal: “Just do it better.”

Since that time, scores of lawyers have stepped away from successful careers at law firms all over the country, many of which were long-established and well-respected, but also traditionally dysfunctional. They left to join in our founding vision, and to join in our story. Since 2001, Goldberg Segalla has grown from a handful of pioneers into a team of over 1,000—from a ramshackle space filled with card tables and saw-horse desks to over 22 offices across 10 states—from a dream of a different kind of culture into a reality that’s changing the practice of law. The firm has done all this without ever compromising on its founding principles—never undertaking a merger or large acquisition, and growing essentially one lawyer at a time.

We make the same promise to our clients that we make to each other: to be excellent professionals, and even better human beings.

“Better” is, by our definition, different — different from what lawyers as well as their clients expect from a major law firm culture. So, what’s the difference?

We put teamwork ahead of individual accomplishments.

We reward service over simple productivity, and reward leadership more than anything else.

We give our people the freedom and support to develop new skills, set new goals, and pursue innovation.

We only expand where our clients need our services, and we only grow around the right attorneys who share our values.

We make the same promise to our clients that we make to each other: to be excellent professionals, and even better human beings.

Growing demand for our services has shown that creating the best culture for employees also leads to the best results for our clients. Although we are 20 years old, Team GS is already over 450 lawyers strong. An Am Law 200 firm, our footprint reaches from Los Angeles to Long Island, with teams based in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Miami, St. Louis, and other major business and economic centers across the U.S. We can handle virtually any civil practice need, from bet-the-company litigation and multijurisdictional transactions to daily risk-management counseling and regulatory guidance. We do all this on a regional, national, or international scale, as our market-leading clients expect.
