Q: Can I require that my employee get vaccinated?

A: This question most frequently comes up in relationship to the flu vaccine but, with the national focus on measles, this question has also been asked more broadly. The answer is industry-specific. For certain high-risk areas such as hospitals, clinics, eldercare and childcare, yes, you can require vaccination. This may also be a job requirement for those who engage in international travel to high risk areas. You do have to offer an accommodation to those who cannot be vaccinated for medical or religious reasons. For other types of jobs, it is unlikely you can require vaccination.
