FTC Names Former Official As New Acting GC

As reported in Law360 earlier this week, “The Federal Trade Commission on Monday named Alden F. Abbott as its new acting general counsel, a former official for the agency who most recently served as a deputy director at the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation.”

California Supreme Court Upholds the State’s Arrestee DNA Collection Law

In a “deeply divided opinion released today, the California Supreme Court upheld a state law mandating DNA collection from arrestees. A lower court had held this law violated the privacy and search and seizure protections guaranteed under the California constitution. Breach Notification Expands To 50 States With Alabama Law

“Businesses will now have to notify consumers in all 50 U.S. states of significant data breaches, after Alabama recently joined every other state in putting on the books a relatively stringent breach reporting law that will give companies 45 days to disclose such incidents and require them to implement reasonable data security measures”, reports Law360.
