According to a recent report by WebRecon, the month of May saw a jump significant from the previous month in filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). Complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), however, remained down.

WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in May as follows:

• 504 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 20% increase from April;
• 331 FDCPA cases were filed, representing a 14.1% increase from April;
• 224 TCPA cases filed, representing a 98.2% increase from April; and
• 5,521 complaints filed with the CFPB, representing a 0.7% decrease from April.

While year-to-date cases are still down for FDCPA and FCRA filings, TCPA’s big jump propelled it to a year-to-date gain of 17.6%.
