Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress hold floor votes.

HEADLINES

•  After securing agreement late last week on the framework of a major infrastructure bill, President Joe Biden and Senate negotiators are working to secure support for the agreement.

•  The House is wrapping up business ahead of its July 4 recess, with the Senate already departed.

•  BakerHostetler’s 32nd Annual Legislative Seminar Series concludes with important bipartisan discussions with a key senator and two House lawmakers. Please join us!

HOUSE

  • The House will be in session today through Thursday. Lawmakers will vote on creating a commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and on a reauthorization of transportation programs that may serve as a marker for Senate infrastructure negotiations.
  • Tuesday, BakerHostetler’s 32nd Annual Legislative Seminar Series will host a double-session with Reps. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., and Bill Huizenga, R-Mich.

SENATE

  • The Senate departed for its July 4 recess, but work continues to sell the bipartisan infrastructure agreement and translate its details into legislation.
  • Wednesday, BakerHostetler’s 32nd Annual Legislative Seminar Series concludes with Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J.

WHITE HOUSE

  • President Biden will host Israel’s new President Reuven Rivlin at the White House this afternoon.
  • Tuesday, Biden will travel to La Crosse, Wisconsin, to tout the bipartisan infrastructure deal.
  • The president will mark Independence Day by welcoming first responders, essential workers, and military members to a gathering on the White House South Lawn on Sunday.
