Below is this week’s congressional update by BakerHostetler’s Federal Policy team. We’ll continue to post in weeks when both chambers of Congress are in session.

HEADLINES

  • Congress is careening toward shutting down the government as both chambers struggle to pass any funding legislation.
  • President Joe Biden is in New York City for the United Nations General Assembly.
  • Upon his return later this week, Biden will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.

HOUSE

  • The House will be in session tonight through Thursday, attempting again to pass Pentagon funding legislation after it stalled amid Republican infighting last week.
  • The House Science, Space, and Technology Committee will hold a hearing tomorrow with Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo on implementation of the CHIPS and Science Act.
  • Wednesday, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will hold an oversight hearing with Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg.

SENATE

  • The Senate will be in session throughout the week, also trying again on spending legislation that was held up last week.
  • Tomorrow, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled “Evading Accountability: Corporate Manipulation of Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.”
  • Thursday, the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee will vote on public health legislation, including a bipartisan agreement aimed at bolstering the primary care workforce.
