AGs Take Laboring Oar on Requiring Government Contractors to Provide Payroll Information

  • A coalition of 14 Democratic AGs, led by Pennsylvania AG Michelle Henry, sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Labor asking the DOL to require more information from government contractors regarding payroll for workers.
  • In the letter, the AGs assert that existing payroll forms for contractors on public projects do not require comprehensive information regarding pay, deductions, and benefits, potentially allowing labor law violations to go undetected. According to the AGs, some contractors have misused the current reporting system to misappropriate fringe benefit funds or reduce workers’ pay through unlawful deductions.
  • The AGs urge the DOL to revise their disclosure requirements for contractors to include hourly rate equivalents for each type of benefit the employer provides, information about the benefit plans provided, and itemization of deductions.
