As we previously reported, New York’s Paid Family Leave law will take effect on New Year’s Day. Although employers with operations in New York State may be familiar with the eligibility requirements and benefit amounts under the law, they may not know that the law requires them to

  • Provide detailed guidance in an employee handbook about employees’ rights and employers' obligations under the law, including the steps to follow in filing a claim for paid family leave.
  • Post a notice about the law in a conspicuous place, similar to what is required for workers' compensation and disability insurance coverage.

DISCLAIMER: Because of the generality of this update, the information provided herein may not be applicable in all situations and should not be acted upon without specific legal advice based on particular situations. Attorney Advertising.
